Margao Temple bans PoP Idol immersions ahead of Chaturthi

The Committee of Shri Rushirambha Rakhandev Devasthan, Gogol, Margao has informed devotees that a resolution has been passed to prohibit the immersion of Plaster of Paris (POP) Ganesh idols in the temple pond during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

President Amir Naik said the decision has been taken in compliance with the directives issued by the Government of Goa, specifically from the Department of Environment & Climate Change, which has strictly banned POP idol immersions due to their detrimental effects on water bodies and the environment.

“Over the past two decades, our temple has witnessed the immersion of more than 200 Ganesh idols annually. However, in the interest of environmental conservation and the protection of our sacred water bodies, we fully support and endorse the Government's initiative”, he said, while seeking cooperation from of all devotees in the matter.
