The Margao Traffic cell is on the job to identify vehicles left abandoned by the owners across the Commercial capital.
Led by Margao Traffic Cell In-charge PI Sanjay Dalvi, the Traffic cell team went round the city to identify the abandoned vehicles.
Till Wednesday evening, the traffic team has identified around 35 abandoned vehicles at various places in the city. The drive will continue till the police compile a detailed report and submit the same to the district Collector for issuance of a proclamation.
PI Dalvi informed that the exercise is aimed at getting rid of the abandoned vehicles, posing eyesore and a health hazard to the citizens.
"After a detailed list is compiled and submitted to the Collector to issue a proclamation, the proclamation will set a one month long deadline to the owners to claim their vehicles or face auctioning', he said.
This is the the third time an exercise is being conducted by the Margao Traffic Cell to get rid of the abandoned vehicles.
During round one, a total of 20 abandoned vehicles were identified and towed away to the Cuncolim police station complex. Of the 20 vehicles, around 11 owners are believed to have claimed ownership. Police said the remaining vehicles will be soon be auctioned after complying with the legal formalities.
