In a significant boost to Goa’s tourism sector, two sets of international tourists arrived in the state on Tuesday, marking the resumption of flights from Iran after a long pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first chartered flight, operated by White Pigeon Holidays, touched down at Dabolim Airport at 7 pm, carrying 140 Iranian tourists, while a second flight arrived at 8.30 pm on the same day.
The visitors were given a warm and traditional welcome by tourism department officials, who greeted them with a brass band and a rose. Additionally, representatives from White Pigeon Holidays adorned the guests with garlands and offered them a taste of Goa’s famous delicacy, Bebinca.
The company had also arranged translators and transportation for the tourists to ensure a smooth experience upon arrival. Many of the visitors, visiting India and Goa for the first time, were seen enjoying the vibrant welcome and capturing moments through selfies.
"Two flights from Iran landed in Goa on Tuesday. The first flight brought in 140 tourists at 7 pm, and the second flight, carrying an equal number of tourists, arrived at 8.30 pm. These flights coincide with Iran’s traditional Navroz festival holidays," said Saira Vaz, an official from White Pigeon Holidays.
"The company has planned three flight schedules, March 19–24, March 24–30, and March 30–April 4. We are optimistic about Iranian tourists making Goa their preferred destination in the coming years. We hope they have a wonderful time in our beautiful state and return every year," Vaz added.
