Around a 1,000 policemen will stand guard in the commercial capital as  the Goa police has chalked out an elaborate security plan on Wednesday  in view of the Dindi festival, the Julus and the feast of Our  Lady of Rosary in neighbouring Navelim on November 21.

The massive security  cover in the city comes against the backdrop of Sunday night’s group  clashes between members of two communities at the Gogol Housing Board.

District  Police chief, SP Arvind Gawas told The Goan that around 550 police  personnel, including six platoons of IRB, have been drafted for bandobast  duty for the Julus, while around 200-plus police personnel  will be deployed for the Dindi festival in the city.

“Around 1,000  plus policemen has been requisitioned for duties as part of the security  arrangements for the Dindi festival, Julus and the feast of  Our Lady of Rosary, Navelim,” he said.

SP Gawas said the 550  policemen will be drafted all along the Julus route, starting  from the Jamia Masjid, Malbhat, Pajifond, Hospicio, B M Service  station, Ravindra Bhavan, Opinion Poll square and back to the Masjid.

Replying  to a question, he said police personnel will stand guard at certain junctions and  places such as the Hospicio hospital so that there’s no blockage of  patients and people visiting

the hospital.

In this connection, the  district police chief and DySP Raju Raut Desai had a meeting with the  volunteers of the Julus, who will be assisting the police all  along the route. “We  have briefed the volunteers about their duties  along the route so that there’s no inconvenience to the public nor to  the participants,” the SP said.

Late this evening, DySP Raju Raut Desai headed to the district Collectorate for a meeting with officials in  view of November 21 security bandobast.

District  Police chief, South SP Arvind Gawas made his presence felt at the  Fatorda police station on Tuesday morning to take stock of the  situation. He had a meeting with the Fatorda police station in-charge,  PI Navlesh Desai and discussed the law and order problem in the Gogol  Housing Board.

SP Gawas told The Goan in the evening that the  situation was peaceful in the Gogol Housing Board on Tuesday, saying  that not a single incident was reported anywhere in the housing board  area. He pointed out that all the nine persons, who were arrested and  released on bail on Monday, reported to the Fatorda police on Tuesday.  All the accused have been directed to report to the Fatorda police for a  period of six days for eight hours every day, between 10 am to 6 pm.
