Three more persons from Margao have succumbed to COVID, even as coronavirus has raised its ugly head at the Moti Dongor once again.
In neighbouring Navelim, an education institute imparting higher education was hit by COVID after a staffer tested positive for coronavirus. Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said that he had asked the Navelim Health Centre to conduct tests of all the staffers of the educational institute as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, COVID has come to haunt the residents of Moti Dongor again after around 15 persons from a family have tested positive for COVID. They have all been shifted to the Ponda COVID care centre.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that two deaths have taken place in the family earlier this week, including an elderly person. He said close members of the family were subjected to COVID tests and around 15-16 of them have now tested positive.
“As a precautionary measure, the positive patients have all been taken to the Ponda COVID care centre”, he added.
The Margao MLA said it is high time that the government immediately starts mass testing of the population to check community transmission.
“I had demanded first only that the government should go for mass testing to stop community transmission. Even the AIIMS doctors have now suggested mass testing”, Kamat said and hoped that the government will go for mass testing in the state.
