State government on Thursday disclosed that there is marginal increase of 4.8 per cent in theft cases in the State since 2016.
Chief Minister and Home Minister Manohar Parrikar disclosed that while 576 cases were registered, out of which 274 were detected, in 2016, police have booked 604 theft cases in 2017. Of these 604, 283 have been detected.
On the other hand, the number of dacoities has gone down from eight in 2016 to only two this year. All these 10 cases have been detected, the House was informed.
The issue was discussed during a calling attention motion moved by Poriem MLA Pratapsing Raoji Rane who spoke about the increase in dacoities and thefts involving migrant and history sheeters.
CM Parrikar informed the House that the CCTNS (Crime Criminal Tracking and Networking System) is being launched in the State on December 19 through which information about crime and criminals from all over the country will become available to all police stations.
Listing the measures adopted to combat this growing menace, CM Parrikar said that night patrolling has been intensified besides scheduling foot patrolling in market areas.
"All suspects, former convicts and history sheeters are kept under constant surveillance. Highway patrolling is also being undertaken by designated highway patrolling vans," he told the House.
CM Parrikar informed that the government has placed an order for 46 new patrolling vans with a Haryana-based agency and these vehicles are likely to be pressed into service in the coming one and half month. Similarly, 42 new robin motorbikes and 30 new alcometers have been ordered.
Speaking during the debate that followed, Calangute MLA and deputy speaker Michael Lobo expressed worry over the fact that most patrolling teams are under-equipped and demanded that these patrolling teams should be armed with guns.
Meanwhile, in reply to a question tabled by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Parrikar informed that while the number of murder cases has decreased, number of rapes have shown slight increase this year in Goa. In 2016, Goa Police booked 31 murder cases and 63 rape cases. As against this, a total of 29 murder cases have been booked till November 30 this year along with 70 rape cases. In addition to this, around 24 prostitution cases have been booked so far this year in which 45 persons have been arrested.
The total number of cases of violence against women has decreased from 410 in 2016 to 363 by November this year.
CM: Police have booked 112 drug
cases, 127 arrested
PANAJI: In two separate replies to questions tabled by Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Home Minister and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed that from June till November 2017, Goa Police have booked 112 drug cases arresting 127 persons for being in illegal possession of narcotics.
"Government has framed anti Narcotic task force committee comprising of members of various enforcement agencies for better cooperation and coordination and exchange of intelligence and to draw an action plan for combat trafficking of drugs," CM stated in his reply.
