The Panaji Municipal Market Tenant Association (PMMTA) has refused to sign the leave and licence agreement with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
“The CCP commissioner is making a false claim that the PMMTA members have agreed to sign the leave and license agreement,” said PMMTA President Rajendra Dhamaskar, during a news conference in Panaji on Saturday.
Dhamaskar said occupants of the shops were ready to sign a lease agreement and appealed to Panaji MLA Babush Monserrate to be sympathetic towards them. “Monserrate has assured us in 2017 that the lease agreement would be signed with the CCP,” he said.
“Since last 100 years, our families have been doing business in this place and now, the CCP is dictating terms to us,” said Dhamaskar.
The CCP has been pushing to get the Panaji Municipal Market tenants to sign the leave and licence agreement and has served notices to all 456 tenants to submit claim with documents latest by July 27.
