After boycotting the last Parliamentary polls in totality over non-developments of basic necessities, the voters of Marli-Tirval came out strongly and recorded the highest voting percentage of 83.12% in the Poinguinim Zilla elections on Saturday.
In the overall low voter turnout, Marli-Tirval booth in Poinguinim village for Poinguinim Zilla constituency, 192 including 101 females (out of 110) and 91 males (out of 121) came to the polling booth to vote to record the highest polled percentage for Poinguinim constituency.
It may be recalled that in a mass boycott, the electorate of Marli-Tirval protested against the government (State and Central) by refusing to vote at the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to express their dissent against the government for ignoring the basic developmental works including tarred road, bridge, uninterrupted power supply and drinking water.
Soon after the Zilla polls 2020 was announced, which were subsequently postponed and held this Saturday, Collector (South) Ajit Roy visited the ward and after hearing the grievances, assured to take up the road and bridge construction works in the shortest possible period.
And if sources are to be believed this assurance was positively pursued by Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, and forest clearances (which were blocking reasons for not taking up road works through reserved forests of Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary) were obtained and are likely to be taken up soon and completed in a year.
According to sources, as per the direction of Central Tribal Ministry, and under the Forest Act 2006, a committee under Collector South in their meeting held on October 8, approved the road construction at Marli which passes through reserved forest land and this information convinced the villagers to believe that the government is indeed doing its part to bring basic development in their ward.
Meanwhile, Maxem booth in Loliem-Polem village recorded the lowest percentage-wise turnout of just 28.33%.
