Issues of Coastal Zone Management Plan, stray cattle, road safety, Savlem Lake, etc were discussed at the gram sabha of Pilerne- Marra held on Sunday.

Sarpanch of Pilerne-Marra Santosh Bandodkar welcomed the gathering and announced that the panchayat has  received the Coastal Zone Management Plan from the Bardez Block Development  office.

“However, Marra area as also some houses have not been shown  in the plan. Hence this plan is not acceptable to the panchayat,” said Bandodkar.

After discussions the villagers too rejected this plan and requested the panchayat to prepare a new CZMP with the help of an expert.

Bandodkar then mentioned that stray cattle have become a nuisance to farmers. Hence the panchayat has decided to enter into an agreement with  Gomantak Goshala Sangh at Sinquerim-Mayem for impounding the stray cattle.

The farmers had raised this issue in the gram sabha several times.

“The panchayat will have to pay them Rs 750 per animal for impounding and transportation to Mayem. We have requested the Directorate of Panchayat for grant of Rs 2000 per animal towards maintenance of cattle,” said Bandodkar.  The villagers also mentioned that the panchayat should carry out development of Savlem lake to which Bandodkar replied that Savlem lake does not belong to the comunidade.

“As per government records, three villagers are owners of this lake. The panchayat has decided to seek clarification from the comunidade as to how this lake was transferred in the name of three villagers.” he said.

Sunday’s gram sabha saw a very poor presence. Hardly 15 members were present for the meet.
