Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday claimed that while there was a temporary drop in charter flights, there had been a rise in domestic tourists to offset the loss.
Godinho was speaking to reporters along the sidelines of commissioning the new departure entry gates and the renovated washrooms in the immigration area of the Dabolim Airport terminal building.
“There has been a temporary decrease in the number of charter flights, but there has been a proportionate rise in the number of domestic tourists. After the recent tragedy in Kerala, a lot of domestic tourists who used go to God’s own country (Kerala) are choosing to come to the place where God dwells (Goa),” said Godinho.
“We need to have good infrastructure and to keep up the good work the Airports Authority of India and its team need to be commended for improvement in facilities.”
“Two additional washrooms have been commissioned and the interiors, exteriors and amenities are of international class. You have baby-sitting facilities for ladies and a gents washroom. Two departure gates have been commissioned and this shows that whatever lacking at this airport will be provided.”
