MCA members make it to MMC statutory panels

MARGAO

The Margao Civic Alliance (MCA) ruling the Margao Municipal Council had  a smooth sailing at the election for the Municipal statutory panels, with almost all the members getting elected on the Standing committee and the subjects committee unopposed.

At the election held on Thursday, both the Standing Committee and the Subject committees, including the market panel were constituted without a contest.

The BJP Councilors, including Camilo Barretto, who had filed his papers for the Standing Committee and the Subject committee, had withdrawn their forms at the time of withdrawl.

In fact, the members left it to the Chairperson to fill the garbage and sanitation committee by inducting members. Former Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar, who had expressed his willingness to be on the garbage panel, said he do not want to be part of the committee. Chairperson Lyndon and  other Councilors, including Raju Naik insisted on nomination Ganashyam on the garbage panel.

Members led by Damu Shirodkar requested the Chairperson to induct the Councilor representing the Sonsodo ward, Sadanand Naik on the panel.

Councilor Damu demanded that the Chairperson take necessary steps for proper recording of the minutes of the meeting, saying the Councilors had bad experience with the minutes compiled by the office staff. A proposal was made to the Chairperson to get the proceedings recorded to avoid controversies.

On the occasion, Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes handed over copies of the Goa Municipalities Act to the newly-elected Councilors, besides government circulars pertaining to functioning of the Civic bodies.
