In a bid to resolve the growing parking crisis in Baina, authorities have decided to convert the median space below the Baina flyover into a dedicated parking zone for the RTO office, Ravindra Bhavan, and residents of the area.

A joint inspection of the site was recently conducted by Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Deputy Collector Bhagwant Karmali, Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Girish Borker, Traffic PI Alvito Rodrigues, Ravindra Bhavan Chairman Jayant Jadhav, and officials from the RTO department.

“There is a huge space below the newly inaugurated flyover which was initially planned for greenery. However, local residents requested that it be converted for parking, especially to benefit the RTO office, Ravindra Bhavan, and nearby homes,” said Salkar.

He added that visitors to the RTO office and Ravindra Bhavan are often forced to park on the roadside due to lack of space, leading to congestion and the risk of accidents.

“This initiative will help ease those issues. We have conducted a joint inspection with officials and residents. I have also spoken to NHAI officials and will soon move a proposal to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to reduce the width of the divider and use the space along the road towards Ravindra Bhavan for parking,” Salkar informed.

The project is expected to be implemented swiftly to offer much-needed relief during office hours and public events in the area.
