The training before his official induction into the Goa Police as a constable was nearing completion but 25-year-old Amey Volvoikar made the questionable decision to associate himself with friends having criminal records.
Volvoikar, currently undergoing training at the Police Training School (PTS) in Valpoi, stepped out of the campus during the weekend to join his “friends” Vishal Golatkar, Sai Kundaikar alias Cobra, Omkar Chari, Gaurish Gawas, Tushar Kundaikar, and a juvenile.
While Golatkar was killed in a planned murder by members of his gang, Volvoikar has been dragged into the case. This could jeopardise his government job, sources said, adding that he could currently face temporary suspension pending an investigation against him.
Reliable sources told The Goan that while the PTS may face scrutiny for permitting trainee/s to leave the campus despite a holiday, Volvoikar, although not directly involved in the killing of Vishal Golatkar, was well aware of the crime. He was allegedly a party to the destruction of evidence alongside the murder accused, yet chose not to inform the police.
“He left the campus on Saturday and was scheduled to return to the PTS on the following morning. However, around 3:30 pm on Saturday, he was found to have accompanied the murderers and conspired with them to destroy evidence near Apna Ghar in Merces. Instead of alerting the police about the crime, he became an accomplice in the case,” the source disclosed.
It is learnt that Volvoikar was allegedly given permission to leave the campus for some mess-related purchases as funds for these purchases were earlier diverted for other items. The investigation will also inquire about the whereabouts of the money provided to the recruit-constable.
The police will now initiate an inquiry into Volvoikar’s locations during his previous exits from the campus, as well as examine his call records to determine if he was in contact with both the murder victim and the accused parties during and prior to his training process.
