In an interesting development, the Goa Forward Party seems to have decided to go slow in taking final call on the question of merger or joining hands with the Mamata Didi-led Trinamool Congress Party.
The party was scheduled to have an executive committee meeting on Saturday to take a decision on joining the party, but postponed the meet in view of a close relative of one of the party MLAs falling ill.
Sources said the Goa Forward chief’s mobile phone was also found switched off throughout the day, only raising questions over the exact reasons behind the sudden postponement of the meeting scheduled for Saturday.
A senior Goa Forward party leader said the party has postponed Saturday meeting after a relative of one of the MLAs fell sick. In the same breath, the leader pointed out that the Goa Forward, which has three MLAs in the Legislative Assembly, is not in a hurry to forge alliances with any party or merge the party with any political outfit.
Sources, however, are trying to figure out whether the regional party has applied breaks on the question of taking a call on the party’s future vis-Ã -vis the TMC. Sources are trying to find out if the postponement of the meeting is an indication that the party does not want to take any decision in haste, more so when the public sentiment is in favour of the coming together of all political parties to defeat the BJP in the elections.
