Cortalim MLA Anton Vas on Friday morning carried out a joint site inspection of the non-functioning traffic signals along the highway near the MES College Junction along with the traffic signal contractor, Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai and Traffic PI Shailesh Narvekar.
Vas assured that the traffic signals at the vital junction would be restored by Monday.
"The traffic signals have not been functional for over a month and people were calling me to address the situation. I followed up with all authorities and the traffic department. I later realised that the traffic signals were not installed by the government, but were taken up under the CSR through a private party,” said Vas.
“I got in touch with company officials and they agreed to restore the traffic signal. The company seemed to be frustrated as they had spent a lot of money on the regular breakdowns of the signal due to the fault of others who either chopped the wires while carrying out underground cabling or damaged the signal during accidents. The company has now agreed to our request and restore the signals by Monday," said Vas.
Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai said the MLA has assured to have a new traffic signal set up in the area, if required.
"Vas met on the non-functional traffic signals and we have also assured of all help required from the Panchayat side," said Pillai.
Traffic PI Shailesh Narvekar and ward panch Santosh Desai also spoke on the occasion.
