PONDA
A day after Ponda BJP leaders demanded Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar's resignation, the Ponda block of MGP hit back by stating that Mamledar was ready to resign as MLA, provided that South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and seven councillors of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) would also resign for winning due to MGP's support.
Addressing a news conference at Durgabhat-Ponda on Wednesday, MGP Ponda block President Anil Naik said: “Not only government posts, but Mamledar will tender his resignation even as MLA, provided Sawaikar and seven PMC councillors were also willing to resign as they had won due to MGP's support,” Naik said.
“Sawaikar and the seven PMC councillors could win only because of MGP vote share.”
Naik also challenged the BJP to convene its Vijay Sankalp Melava in an open place, rather than holding it in hall.
It may be recalled that on Tuesday, BJP Ponda block had demanded the resignation of Mamledar as chairman of Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir and president of Handicrafts Department, failing which he would meet the same fate as MGP leaders Sudin and Deepak Dhavalikar, who were dropped from the cabinet on Monday night.
Gaurav Kudchadkar, Rudresh Parkar, Vinayak Naik and Devidas Gaude were also present at the news conference.
