The ongoing cross examination of Karnataka’s witness that was scheduled for Monday was postponed to July 4 as the chairman’s wife was sick and hospitalized in the ICU at a hospital in Delhi and was thus unable to attend the proceedings.
During Monday’s deliberations, two members of the Tribunal had proposed to conduct the hearing in the absence of chairman sought consent of all three states, Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Senior counsel for Goa Atmaram N S Nadkarni gave no objection. He had also volunteered to get written approval of the state of Goa with the seal of the
Governor of Goa, to go ahead with the hearing so that the tempo of the cross examination was not
lost as well as to save time money and energy.
However, Karnataka had objected to the hearing being continued by two members without the chairman.
Under these circumstances, Nadkarni suggested posting the matter over to Wednesday to enable the tribunal chairman to resume if possible, but Karnataka was not keen, he said.
