‘Mhozo Tallo Aikat’ (listen to my voice), an All Goa Konkani Solo Singing competition organised by the Goa Cultural and Social Centre (GCSC) at Institute Menezes Braganza in Panaji had the final round on Saturday where winners in three categories were declared.
The first prize in junior category went to Kerryann Valerie Albuquerqe (Ucassaim), second went to Samaira Nadia Furtado (Bambolim) and the third to Griffen Anthony Pereira (Utorda).
In senior (male) category Jason Manuel Baptist Fernandes (Varca) came first, while Shriram G Shetye (Bicholim) bagged the second prize and Josiah Nicholas Rebello (Panaji) won the third prize.
In the senior (female) category Naisa Lotlekar (Old Goa) pocketed the first prize while the second place went to Valarie Zina D’souza (Vasco) and the third to Sheena P Fernandes (Curtorim).
The prize distribution function was graced by BJP leader and former MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar, Joel Afonso, editor, The Goan Everday, along with the members of the executive committee GCSC and others.
This all Goa singing competition was organised on the occasion of the entry of the GCSC in the golden jubilee year on January 16, 2018. Founded in 1969, the centre is one of the first cultural organisations that bagged the ‘State Cultural Award’ given by government of Goa in 2015 for its vibrant participation in reviving the culture of Goa.
The Konkani singing competition of GCSC has a history of 22 years. Revived in 2015 the competition emerged as ‘Mhozo Tallo Aikat’ with in increasing number of participants each year. “This is the fourth edition of ‘Mhozo Tallo Aikat’ and we are determined to continue. We are happy that the quality is enhancing year after year and more participants trained in music are coming forward to exhibit their talent,” said Francisco Noronha, president of GCSC.
GCSC works towards promoting and encouraging educational, cultural and social development of Goans. The centre also strives to uplift the cultural standard of the community by means of conferences, meetings, symposia, debates, exhibitions, sports, songs and folklore dances, Mando festivals, folk plays, drama etc. Not limiting with these, GCSC also promotes and patronises social services for the welfare of the poor people.
