Issues pertaining to migrants staying in rented rooms, an illegal construction in khazan land and a defamation suit filed by a construction company against the sarpanch and panchayat were discussed at the Azossim-Mandur gram sabha on Sunday.

Residents raised the issue of many migrants staying in rented rooms and voiced the need to have a proper record of personal details of this population.

A member, Shamin Pereira, suggested that a survey be conducted to gather a proper record for future use.

The other issue pertained to an illegal construction in khazan land in Azossim. Metlon Pereira, a member, raised the issue and said that it is eco-sensitive land and will affect agriculture.

The panchayat authorities said they have not issued any approvals for it. But after members urged that inspection be held, the authorities agreed to do so.

Residents also discussed the Rs 50 crore defamation suit filed by a construction company against the sarpanch, Ajit Bacal and the Azossim-Mandur panchayat.

The members asked for details about the case, which Bacal said had been filed by the company after he had taken up the issue of illegal dumping of mud from

the construction site in Panaji by the company at Parpoti-Azossim.

The panchayat has not yet filed any case so far, but Bacal said the matter is being examined.

Another member raised the issue of Ganpati visarjan ramp near a water body behind the panchayat building.

The members urged that the work be completed as

the festive season was drawing near.

While Jose Fernandes called for a survey of persons below poverty live, another member Remedios Fernandes said there was a need for a speed breaker at Tito junction on Dongorim road.
