Mining stir: Cops file chargesheet against 77 for blocking highway

PANAJI: Goa police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against 77  mining dependents for allegedly blocking the national highway and other  offenses during the agitation against the closure of mining on March 21. “The chargesheet comprises of around 400-odd pages and over 108 witnesses in  the list”, informed Panaji PI Siddhant Shirodkar. Around 3000 protesters had assembled in Panaji with some of them blocking the highways and the Mandovi  bridge for over four hours. With entry and exit points being shut, the city came to a grinding halt leaving thousands of commuters stranded. 

The agitators have been booked under various Sections of National Highway Act, 1956 and Section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
