PORVORIM
A delegation of the allottees of tenements in Davorlim led by Vinayak Anand Volvoikar called on the Managing Director of Goa Housing Board (GHB), Porvorim, Sabaji Shetye and handed over a memorandum requesting for the extension of date for the payment of full amount of tenement. They also sought assistance to get loans from the banks.
In the aforesaid memorandum, the allotees mentioned that tenements were valued initially by GHB at Rs 35,000 per square meter. The GHB decided to auction the tenements the value went up to Rs 51,000 per square meter. Since these tenements are meant for the economically weaker sections of the society, the GHB should not have auctioned them. Instead, the GHB should have adopted a draw of lots system keeping the original rate of Rs 35,000 per square meter.
The memorandum further added that the value of tenements have now increased due to auction process and allottees have found it difficult to get loans from the banks. It is not possible for them to make the full payment within 25 days from the receipt of allotment order. Hence, the GHB should consider their difficulty sympathetically and help them in getting loans from the banks and also extend the time for making the full payment.
While speaking to press persons, Shetye mentioned that the GHB had auctioned 39 tenements admeasuring 45 square meters each on October 22, 2018. There were 54 bidders for 39 tenements. Though the original value of the tenements was Rs 35,000 per square meter, the bidders increased the value themselves in order to get the tenements. Now the allottees are finding it difficult to get a loan from the bank. He assured the allottees that GHB will try to assist them to get loans from the bank. He will also place their request before Board of Directors (BoDs) for the extension of time to make full payment of the tenements.
