Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday launched E-sticker for vehicles driven by elderly drivers, a project initiated by Rotary Club of Miramar in association with the transport department
Speaking to reporters, Godinho said he would try to amend the Motor Vehicle Act to make it mandatory to have e-sticker for elders and added that plans were also afoot to have new series of registration numbers for vintage cars.
Commending the Rotary Club of Miramar for initiating the E-sticker project, Godinho said the E-sticker for vehicles driven by elderly drivers is an indicator to offer respect to elderly drivers.
“It is just like we have an “L” sticker for those learning to drive which is a sign to avoid going close to or obstructing the driver. Similarly, an E-sticker will be for elderly persons driving on the road and I want to make this mandatory and see how we can get this officially inside the Act,” said Godinho.
“When this E-sticker is seen, the senior drivers will be respected by others since it will imply that an elderly person is driving the vehicle and people will not honk and try to make them speed up, etc.”
"This will create awareness on the road for the sake of elderly people who deserve respect for the wisdom, experience and their contribution to society. It's time we recognise them even when they are driving on the roads," said Godinho.
