MARGAO
Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Wednesday made a strong pitch for a separate directorate for Homeopathy and Ayurveda in the State to further give a boost to the traditional system of medicines.
Speaking at the inaugural function on Tuberculosis organised by the Goa Board of Homeopathy in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Elimination programme at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Wednesday, Shirodkar laid stress on giving priority to health and education to take the State and the nation forward.
“We should get a separate Directorate for Ayush in Goa. That should be possible when Dr Pramod Sawant, who is ruling the State, is an Ayurveda. We should all try and get a separate Directorate for Ayurveda and Homeopathy,” Shirodkar added.
Speaking on tuberculosis, the WRD Minister said though the country and the State have almost eradicated TB, still a lot more needs to be done for the complete eradication of the disease.
“Till the TB hospitals in the State are shut down, all the Homeopaths, Ayurveda and Allopathic doctors should work together with a mission for the total eradication of the disease,” he said.
Laying stress on health and education, Shirodkar called upon the students and doctors in Ayush to be role models in medicine.
“We should not be role models only in the development of roads, but also on the health and medicine front,” he added.
Saying that Goa enjoys good medical and health facilities, right from the North to the South, Shirodkar reminded the participants that patients from across the border are brought to the Goa Medical College and Asilo hospital in North Goa and the South Goa district hospital for treatment.
