Goa government's beach safety partner agency Drishti Lifesaving has claimed it has helped five tourists including a minor survive life-threatening situations from the sea during the long weekend rush to the State.
In a statement, Drishti Lifesaving said their lifeguards helped save the five tourists in separate incidents across Goa -- three in Palolem and one each in Benaulim and Sinquerim.
"With the monsoon still on, the State continues to experience rough weather conditions including strong underwater currents, high waves, and rains. All beaches in Goa continue to be closed for swimming," Drishti said, but claimed that people continue to venture into the waters.
A group of three persons - two men and one woman - aged between 22 and 24, were swimming in Palolem and were were swept away by strong currents.
The three struggling youngsters got pulled in different directions and shouted for help when their lifeguards spotted them and rushed to their help, the agency said, adding that a rescue tube and two jet-skis were used in the rescue operation.
The trio was brought to safety and administered medical care on the shore, it added.
Meanwhile at Benaulim, a 14-year-old boy lost control of the bicycle he was riding on the beach and fell into the sea.
He was swept away by the current and was struggling when a lifeguard noticed him and brought him safely to the shore using a rescue tube, the agency said.
