In a bid to quell any possible anger among unhappy candidates not backed by him in elections to five wards of Dabolim constituency which are part of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said they are not his opponents and would be accommodated for other requirements.

Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the election office of candidate Asha More in Ward 23 to mark International Women's Day. Sancole ZP Member Anita Thorat, More and a group of residents were present on the occasion.

“All our five candidates will win because they have a lot of public support,” said Godinho.

Godinho said he did not want to dishearten other women candidates who were planning to contest the polls.

“Municipal elections are not on party lines and some candidates have been identified by me because of their work. While everyone is trying their best to contest, only one can win and others must not get disheartened and upset.”

"Though I have not floated a panel, many have been identified as my candidates. Even though I support these candidates, people who may have not been considered for elections are not my opponents but will be adjusted at a different time and for a different requirement," said Godinho.

This is the third office that Godinho has inaugurated an election office in Dabolim constituency. He had earlier inaugurated the office of his candidate, Sudesh Bhosle (Ward 22) and Caetano Xavier (Ward 24).
