Minister praises panchayats for becoming proactive

CANACONA

Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday praised the panchayats in the State for becoming proactive by submitting utilisation certificates and seeking fresh development funds.

Godinho was speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Poinguinim Panchayat Ghar in the presence of Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar and VP Poinguinim Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar.

“Earlier, many panchayats did not use the allotted funds and could not carry out further works. But now, they are submitting the utilisation certificates, and the government is extending more funds,” said Godinho.

Godinho informed that a grant of Rs 5 crore is being given to those panchayats which do not have a panchayat house.

On the occasion, those who served as sarpanchas of Poinguinim since 1963 were felicitated by Godinho and Tawadkar.

While the departed sarpanchas were felicitated posthumously, the former sarpanchas present on the occasion included Shantaram Bhat, Kashibai Painginkar, Leao Viegas, Prabhakar Painginkar, Jagdish Acharya, Ulhas Naik, Ditroz Barretto, Peter Godinho, Janardan Bhandari, Mrunali Namashikar, Tejaswini Daykar, Govind alias Mahesh Naik, Vallabh Tengse, Ramdas Pujari, Tulshidas Naik and Jagdish Gaonkar.

Vipin Prabhugaokar, BDO Engineer Bhiwa Velip, and Panchayat Secretary Rajiv Naik Gaonkar, who contributed during the construction and renovation of the panchayat building, were also felicitated.

Earlier, Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar welcomed the gathering and reviewed the development works in the Panchayat.
