Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has voiced his strong opposition to the expansion of Ambe Metallic Project at  Pissurlem. At a public meeting held at Sattari, Vishwajit said he has discussed the issue with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and requested him not to allow the expansion of this project.

Vishwajit said that the Ambe Metallic project has been polluting the environment since its inception. Black smoke emitted from this project is harmful for agriculture and horticulture. Health problems have been troubling those residing around the project with an increase in asthma cases. He said that under no circumstances will projects be allowed if the public does not want them.

Efforts are being made to provide employment to the locals by starting the currently closed mining business. He expressed the hope that the auction of the mines will be held soon and due to this, the closed industries in Pissurlem area will resume.

Speaking on this occasion, local MLA Dr Deviya Rane strongly opposed the expansion of the Ambe Metallic project. At this time, she demanded from the government that the expansion should not be allowed. On this occasion, she assured that priority will be given from the point of view of solving the problems of local areas.

Honda Zilla Panchayat Member Sagun Wadkar, who was present on this occasion, said that locals are not getting employment from many companies operating in Pissurlem area. However, the problem that the local people have to face due to the pollution of this company was raised and a strong demand was made for the government to pay special attention in this regard. Panchayat Sarpanch Devanand Parab while speaking raised the issue of pollution by Ambe Metallic Company. Similarly, since Pissurlem industrial estate has been declared as a chemical zone, pollution is occurring in this area.

Social activist Vinod Shinde brought up the issue of Ambe Metallic and demanded that the extension of this project should not be allowed as the main side effects of this project are on agriculture and horticulture and the health of citizens.
