Miscreants set ablaze dry grass at Zuarinagar

VASCO
Miscreants set ablaze dry grass at Zuarinagar on Friday, sparking off angry reactions from residents of Umiya Habitat Housing society in the area.

The residents said the fire on the hillock near Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited at Zuarinagar posed a threat to lives in the area and also caused heavy air pollution.

Speaking to reporters, a resident and former journalist, Anil Chodankar, said the fire set by miscreants turned into an inferno, compelling fire tenders from ZACL, Vasco and Verna to be deployed at the site.

"Fire brigades from Vasco, Verna and ZACL were pressed into service but they were helpless and could not do much as there was no access to the hillock.

“The thick smoke caused so much air pollution that residents in the area, especially senior citizens, faced breathing problems.”

“Such incidents cause pollution, endanger lives and poses a threat to various companies in the locality. Authorities must keep a close watch on such miscreants," said Chodankar.
