PERNEM
Reacting sharply to Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte’s statements on Wednesday, MGP’s newly inducted Jeet Arolkar and two former sarpanchas said Sopte had lowered his image by his derogatory remarks.
Addressing a news conference at his office in Mandrem, Arolkar accused Sopte of using derogatory language against his supporters.
“Raghoba Gaude and Devendra Prabhudesai are not just former sarpanchas, but Gaude is a former teacher and Prabhudesai is presently a teacher. Sopte needs to mind his language,” said Arolkar.
Former sarpanch Devendra Prabhudesai said if Sopte considers himself an educated person, he would not have passed cheap remarks about himself and other supporters.
“I brought Sopte into politics in 2002 when I took him to voters in Pernem and introduced him. No one from the villages knew anything about him.”
“I honed his skills as a leader when he had none. I ran a student's revolution as a young leader in my heydays and so, a person like Sopte need not teach me about politics.”
“The language used by him does not suit an MLA and I'll take legal action against him,” said Prabhudesai.
Raghoba Gaude said Sopte’s comments as an MLA has shamed the BJP.
