Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar inspected the construction of the retaining wall at Mundvel, Vaddem, on Friday morning. Salkar, speaking to reporters, emphasized that the retaining wall would benefit the residents living in the area who constantly fear landslides.
“This is a landslide-prone area, and people have always lived in fear here. Unfortunately, their fear came true when a senior citizen lady was killed after a boulder crashed into her house at night. Though we ensured that the family received compensation of Rs 4 lakhs, money cannot compensate for a valuable life lost. We decided to take some steps on the issue. The safety of the residents is my top priority, and I will always stand with them,” said Salkar.
“We then took the issue with the Government and got a project of a retaining wall sanctioned through the WRD department. The people can now sleep peacefully, and there is no need to fear after this project is complete. The people are happy that the construction of the retaining wall is progressing at full speed, and we are even planning to extend the retaining wall to other parts of this area,” said Salkar.
