Stating that the shops which are constructed outside the GMC complex are not suited for the fruits and vegetables vendors, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday demanding that they be allotted a different space.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the CM, Borkar informed that the shops do not have ventilation, which would result in the fruits and vegetables getting spoilt.
“Taking this into consideration, I met the CM and demanded that either the modification of the shops be allowed or the fruits and vegetables vendors be allotted a separate area,” Borkar stated.
The MLA further said the CM has said that the fruits and vegetables vendors, numbering around 17, will be allocated the shops and that the modification could be taken up later.
When questioned, Borkar informed that the shops have not been built properly and the fruits and vegetables vendors were not taken into consideration when planning the same.
“If the shops are allotted as it is, and if the vendors are unable to do business and if they come back on the road, then what would be the use of the shops?” Borkar questioned while stating that till date, he is not aware how the allocation of shops would be done.
“The fruits and vegetables vendors have complained to me that the shops are not viable for them to do business and hence I have taken up the issue with the CM,” Borkar informed and demanded that this genuine issue should be resolved amicably.
Meanwhile, Borkar informed that he has also taken up the issue of allotting more staff to the Agassaim police station, which in understaffed.
“It has been a long pending demand and I had raised the same in the Assembly also as it is the need of the hour to have enough staff at the Agassaim police state,” he added.
