Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas made a last-ditch effort to save a house belonging to a family from Cavelossim by contacting representatives of an online company to prevent the structure from being demolished.

The MLA issued a stern warning that there is no place for casino gambling in Cavelossim, saying casinos bring with them all vices, including drugs and prostitution.

As the family members occupying the house have time until the weekend to demolish the structure and file a report in the High Court next week, residents of Cavelossim, along with Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz, called on the Benaulim MLA at his office, seeking his intervention to save the house from demolition.

The MLA demanded to know how the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority had prepared its report on the structure when no demarcation of the River Sal had been carried out by the agency. “My information reveals that the river has entered the mainland by at least 10 metres. This was never reflected in the GCZMA report. If the GCZMA had conducted the demarcation, the structure in question would not have faced the sword of Damocles,” he said.

Saying that he had spoken to representatives of the online company that had purchased the property in question, Viegas said he had impressed upon the company to work out an amicable solution and save the house from demolition.
