Margao MLA Digambar Kamat descended at the Margao Municipal building early Thursday morning after the civic body set up a special squad to meet any eventuality in view of the red alert issued by the authorities.
After paying a visit to the Comba area of the city following a complaint relating to sewage issue, Kamat made his presence felt at the MMC building to take a review with Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar over the situation.
The Margao MLA instructed a PWD engineer attached to the Sewerage department to find out the number of sewage chambers overflowing in the city.
Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar later told the media that the special squad with men and machinery was constituted as a precautionary measure after the authorities issued the red alert.
After the civic chief contacted most of the councilors to report at the MMC building on 8 am on Thursday, a couple of City Fathers, including former Chairperson Lyndon Pereira, Mahesh Amonkar, Johnny Crasto, Raju Naik, Camilo Barretto, Damodar Varak, Francis Joanes were present.
Shirodkar told the media in the evening that the day passed off without any major emergency in the city, saying the minor complaints were attended by the Municipal squad.
