MARGAO

As the Tolleaband water body at Benaulim was almost full to the brim, Warren Alemao on Thursday questioned the failure of the authorities to provide ration to the inhabitants putting up on the bandh.

A day after Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas arranged a flood risk assessment study by the authorities and demanded an action plan by the deputy Collector, Margao to evacuate the marooned inhabitants, Warren Alemao descended at Tolleaband to hand over life jackets to the people, including children as a safety precaution.

After distributing the life jackets, Warren promised to send ration to the marooned inhabitants by Thursday evening.

He later told the media since the inhabitants run the risk of falling in the Tolleaband water body which is filled with flood water, he has distributed them with life jackets as a precautionary measure. “When I was called by one of the inhabitants from the colony, I was shocked to know the condition of the people and hence decided to contribute my bit to provide relief to the people”, he said.

Warren requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to do something for the marooned people, demanding to know whether the local Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has any idea about the number of people putting  up on the bandh.

A resident Sameer said the flood situation at Tolleaband is not something new, lamenting that the authorities also planned to evacuate the people to safety during heavy rains. He said the work initiated at the Tolleaband to build a wall has not been completed till date, saying the work was stopped when the code of conduct had come into force during the Panchayat election.
