When will Madgavkars finally get respite and relief from the overflowing sewage chambers and foul odour around the Margao Municipal building?
It will be almost a week on Friday since the sewage chamber on the Margao Municipal building passage had started overflowing, discharging raw sewage. Even as the visitors to the Municipal library and the citizens in general were anticipating some relief from the MMC and the PWD on plugging the sewage flow, another sewage chamber on the road on the eastern side of the MMC has started overflowing.
When this question was posed to Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Thursday to shed light on the overflowing sewage chambers, he said that a team of PWD engineer, sewerage is presently on the job to find out the number of overflowing sewage chambers in the city.
Sources in the know, however, question whether the exercise to ascertain the number of overflowing sewage chambers will serve any purpose when pertinent questions, including the reasons for the rain water infiltration into the underground line remain unanswered.
That’s not all. Both the Sewerage Treatment plants, the 6.75MLD plant and the 20MLD plant are running beyond the capacities, indicating large scale infiltration of rain water into the underground line.
