MARGAO/VASCO/OLD GOA
Goa was rocked by a series of disturbing incidents on a single day, Thursday, after three girls were alleged to have been sexually assaulted at Zuarinagar, Old Goa and Maina-Curtorim police jurisdiction.

While two of the victims were minor girls, the third victim was a differently-abled girl who was alleged to have been sexually assaulted by her own father. All three accused were arrested on Thursday in the respective cases.

In a shocking incident, the Maina-Curtorim police has arrested a 47-year old man for alleging raping his daughter, a person with disability.

Sources informed that the complaint to this effect was lodged by the mother of the victim girl, who had come back home from abroad, where she is employed.

Sources said the victim girl is believed to have narrated the incident to her mother that she was allegedly sexually abused by her father since November last year.

Taking cognisance of the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, the Maina-Curtorim police swung into action and arrested the accused father.

Women and children’s rights activist, Auda Viegas has complimented the Maina-Curtorim police for the prompt action in arresting the accused person. She has called for stern punishment against the accused for allegedly sexually assaulting the victim girl, a person with disability.

The Maina-Curtorim police is investigating the case.

Verna police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old man from Zuarinagar on charges of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor girl.

According to sources, the accused, Laxman Lamani, took the minor girl on the pretext of dropping her home and sexually assaulted her. He also allegedly threatened the girl with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

Verna police immediately swung into action and arrested Lamani under Sections 363, 376, 354A, 506 (ii) of IPC, Section 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act and Sections 4,6,8 and 12 of POCSO Act.

PSI Karishma Prabhu is further investigating the case under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.

The Old Goa police arrested a restaurant manager on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year old girl on Thursday.

According to information available, the parents of the child were customers at the restaurant and would often order biryani to be delivered at their residence.

The manager of the restaurant was targeting the child and on July 1, he went to deliver biryani when the child was alone.

“The manager then touched the child at objectionable parts with ulterior motive,” the police stated, while adding that the child was reluctant to disclose the incident to the parents.

“The child indirectly tried to tell her mother by stating that she does not like the biryani of the restaurant. However, later she disclosed the entire episode after which a police complaint was lodged by the mother against the restaurant manager,” the police added.

The accused has been placed under arrest and charged under Section 354 A of IPC, Section 8 and 10 of POCSO Act, and Section 8(2) of Goa Children’s Act.

Further investigations are conducted by LPSI Veronica Coutinho under the supervision of PI Satish Padwalkar.
