The Navelim underground sewage line is not commissioned yet, but a couple of sewage chambers along the line have started overflowing during the current rain spell.
A ride down an internal road, starting from the western bypass road underpass and passing through Nagmodem, before joining the Sirvodem STP road, revealed a number of underground sewage chambers overflowing.
PWD, Sewerage officials pointed out that the underground line is not yet commissioned till date, but they had no reason how come the sewage chambers along the road are overflowing.
Once completed, the Navelim underground sewage line is to be connected to the 20MLD STP plant at Sirvodem. Officials as well as citizens question whether the underground sewage line laid in Navelim will go the Margao away with rain water infiltration raising its ugly head along the line before its commissioning.
In fact, an official in the know demanded that the SIDCGL and the PWD should take possession of the line from the contractors only after certifying the work. “The government agencies should exercise due care and caution when the contractor complete work on the Navelim line, more so when rain water infiltration has already raised its ugly head at the Nagmodem stretch of the line”, an official in the know stated.
