Normal life was thrown out of gear in Salcete’s countryside for the second day on, with a 63-year old woman from Nuvem sustaining injuries after a tree crashed on her house at Pateapur on Thursday.
Reports of uprooting of trees on road and blocking traffic have been reported from a number of places in Salcete.
The area near the KTC bus stand, which plays host to kiosks, was inundated by water. Velim Sarpanch Veena Cardozo that a road stretch between Tolleacanto-Cumbeabhat was inundated by water. She further informed that the fire brigade had rushed to Velim after a coconut tree came crashing down on a house.
Margao Fire Officer Gill D’Sa informed that the incident at Pateapur was reported on Thursday morning after a jungle tree came crashing down on a house belonging to Minguel Baptista. Injured lady Catrina Rodrigues (63 years), who sustained injuries was shifted to the hospital before the arrival of the fire brigade.
The Margao fire brigade was kept on its toes throughout Thursday after they received a number of emergency and rescue calls. Fire Officer Gill informed that a tree had fallen on a pathway near Fab India, Borda.
The fire brigade rushed to Agalli-Fatorda after a jungle tree fell on the road near St Anne school.
The fire personnel also rushed to Sinquetim-Navelim to clear a tree fallen on the road and electrical wires on Thursday morning.
A teak wood came crashing down on a the road and electrical wires near Maria hall, Benaulim on Thursday morning. Reports of uprooted trees fallen on roads had come in from Sernabatim, at Borda near Mother Care hospital and at Murida-Fatorda on a car parking shed.
