The intensity of the downpour on Thursday was not as severe as initially predicted, but in a major relief, the rainfall deficit has finally come to an end, with Goa experiencing a surplus of 5.8 percent rainfall.
The Union Ministry of Earth Sciences and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued warnings about the potential for low to moderate flash floods in certain parts of the country, including Goa.
A red alert was also in effect for the second consecutive day on Thursday, although the rainfall did not match the intensity of the first day’s red alert.
In the last 12 hours, the Panaji station recorded 40 mm of rainfall, while Margao received 43 mm and Ela (Old Goa) experienced 38.5 mm of rainfall till evening.
The day was also marked by several incidents, such as the felling of trees on to the roads and vehicles, as well as minor vehicular accidents that were reported earlier this week.
The government had also announced a holiday on Thursday in view of the heavy rainfall forecast by the weather agency.
