While schools from Std I to XII in the State were closed on Thursday following an Education Department circular declaring a holiday in view of the Indian Metrological Department alert predicting heavy rainfall, several anganwadis, however, remained open in Dharbandora taluka.
While schools across the State remained closed, parents and staff were surprised to find out that anganwadis were opened on Thursday.
Sources said while the education had issued a directive to close schools, there was no order explicitly directing anganwadis to also close for the day. As a result, all staff were asked to report to the anganwadis for normal duty.
While most parents did not send their children to the anganwadis on Thursday morning assuming that the Education Department circular was applicable to anganwadis as well, some parents noticed the staff entering the anganwadis and also sent their children.
The children were, however, sent home at 12 noon.
“We did not receive any directives to close down the anganwadis on Thursday on account of heavy rainfall and hence, all anganwadi workers and helpers were present at the centres,” said a source.
