MLA slams BJP tamasha over AAP poll funding

MARGAO

Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Saturday charged the BJP for indulging in a tamasha over the ED claims that the Aam Admi Party had spent around Rs 70 lakh in Goa during the 2022 Assembly election.

He accused BJP State president Sadanand Tanavade for raking up the issue in Goa in order to divert the burning issues plaguing the state, including Mhadei, river Sal pollution, track doubling project, western bypass et al.

‘If the BJP has evidence that Rs 70 lakh were spent in the Goa election by the Aam Admi party, the ED should file a charge sheet in the court of law and take action. The BJP has all the engines at its disposal. I do not understand what stops the BJP’s engines from filing  a charge sheet and initiating action”, he said.

Saying that Tanavade has sought to drag him and Velim MLA Cruz Silva in the ED case, Venzy dared the BJP leadership for an open debate on the issues facing the state and its people. “Instead of accepting the challenge for a debate, the BJP has drafted its spokespersons in the frontline against AAP. If they have the guts, the BJP state president should come face to face. Let us discuss face to face on ED and all other issues”, he said

He added; “We are ready for discussion on corruption. I want to tell the BJP that the AAP and its MLAs will not be scared of the 'jumlas' the BJP is known for. We will not leave Mhadei, nor river Sal or other issues, including the track doubling project, Old Goa heritage issue. We are not going to bow down to the BJP”.

Saying the books of the AAP are clean, the Benaulim MLA said AAP has nothing to hide, but has issued a warning to the BJP leadership that it will not take much time for the party to bring out the skeletons of the ruling party in the future.
