MARGAO
Flower vendors from Fatorda have on Thursday knocked the doors of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai after they were warned of action if they sell flowers on the station road near the Pimpalkatta.
The Fatorda MLA called up the Margao Municipal Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar and warned that he would demand action against all illegal business if the civic body targets the Mull Goemkar flower vendors.
The flower vendors pointed out that they have been selling flowers on the station road without causing any obstruction to vehicular traffic. They said they were taken by surprise when the MMC officials told them not to stand on the road from Friday.
Taking up cudgels for the beleaguered vendors from Fatorda, Sardesai warned that any discrimination against the ST vendors from Fatorda would get a befitting reply from him and the people.
“These ST vendors have been producing the flowers and marketing them in the market to eke a living. They are the few Goan vendors left in the market which is being taken over by migrant vendors. We will not sit quiet if the Margao Municipality cracks a whip against the Goan vendors”, he warned.
