Vasco BJP MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar on Tuesday assured to take up work to construct the long-pending Vasco fish market on top priority.
Salkar along BJP Mandal President Deepak Naik, MMC Councillors Shami Salkar, Girish Borkar, former MMC Chairperson Lavina D'Souza, Fiola Rego and others visited the Vasco fish market, where Salkar thanked fish vendors for supporting him in the recent assembly elections and participated in a religious function organised by the vendors.
Salkar said work on the Vasco fish market would start soon but assured the vendors that the market would be built as per their needs and requirements.
"The Vasco fish market project has been held up for over 15 years and we have to see why the project has not taken up and what are the real issues behind it. I will soon have a meeting with all fish vendors, their leaders and other stakeholders and start work on this project as per the needs and requirements of the fish vendors.”
“I will take all of them into confidence before we can start taking up this project. We will keep those trying to politicise the market issue at bay and convene a meeting of fish vendors to understand their real issues and grievances," said Salkar.
Vasco BJP Mandal President Deepak Naik said it was for the first time that the BJP in Vasco had received tremendous votes from the Kharewaddo fishing belt due to support of the fish vendors.
"We will resolve all their issues and ensure that the Vasco fish market project sees the light of the day soon. A fish vendor has said they don't want fish being sold outside the fish market as it causes them losses. I will request the MMC to take strict action against those selling fish by the roadsides and also close down all outlets selling fish in wholesale,” said Naik.
