Unveiling plans to develop Sanguem constituency, local MLA Prasad Gaonkar on Wednesday said promoting agriculture and dairy farming, generating permanent employment and boosting hinterland tourism would be among his priorities.
Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, Gaonkar said his main objective will be to give a boost to agricultural activities in Sanguem, as the taluka contributes much of its agricultural output in Goa.
“Dairy farming and business related to dairy will be also promoted in villages of Rivona, Bhati, Neturlim, Molcornem and other villages. The main aim is to improve the financial condition of the farmers from rural areas,” he said.
Speaking on employment generation, Gaonkar said he will also work towards employment generation for the youth and locals of Sanguem taluka.
“I am thinking of removing contract system at Xelpem Industrial area and give permanent jobs and for any jobs in Sanguem area, Sanguem locals would be given first preference,” he added.
Gaonkar said Sanguem locals should benefit from mining and jobs from this sector. “I will not allow any interference from outsiders,” the MLA added.
He said he spoke to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar regarding up-gradation of the Sanguem Primary Health Centre, construction of Dando bridge and other issues. “The chief minister will visit Sanguem in next eight days.”
“The Selaulim Dam Rehabilitation committee has not convened a single meeting in the last five years and the locals have suffered a lot. Hence, I will take up the matter for discussion,” he said.
“Efforts will also be made to boost hinterland tourism in Sanguem, as this will also create employment for the locals from interior parts of Sanguem,” said Gaonkar.
