Stating 67% of Goan voters have voted against BJP in last legislative assembly elections, GFP supremo Vijai Sardesai lamented most of the elected legislators are afraid to be in the Opposition.
“They don’t have the guts to remain in opposition; 67% of electorate had voted against BJP in recent assembly elections, even than, most elected representatives are fearful to remain in opposition,” he said.
“Infact Government is trying to control all the Four- pillars of Democracy, just like PMO, Speaker gets directions from CMO. The fourth pillar (Press) is under the serious government threat to remain unbiased,”
he added.
“Maintining the independence of the Fourth Pilar is a greatest challenge of all, and it is for the press to keep a tab and take up still a bigger challenge to see whether the remaining Three Pillars of democracy are functioning properly,” he further
said.
Sardesai was speaking at the annual function of Canacona Patrakar Sangh on Saturday.
“I call upon the Swabhimani Canconcars to question the Speaker, a democratic position which we respectfully refer as ‘Sir’ to act unbiased, protect the honour of the chair, and also the dignity of his constituency,” he said.
Sardesai also spoke on the issue of paid news and the government of the day forcing journalists to bring out only “positive” news.
