Several MLAs from the Opposition and Ruling benches on Wednesday raised issues related to water supply in their respective constituencies during the debates on demands related to Public Works Department.
Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco demanded overhead tanks in some areas of his constituency. He pointed out that due to increase in construction projects at Vasco, the demand for water has gone up and as a result water is diverted from his constituency. He demanded that water, which rightfully belongs to his constituency, should not be diverted.
Congress MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar demanded that pending water connection works to overhead tanks in Colvale area need to be completed.
BJP MLA Rajesh Patnekar demanded that to overcome frequent breakdowns old machinery at treatment plants should be replaced.
Patnekar pointed out that the Muslim community from Bicholim area faced water problems during Ramadan this year and tankers were not available at this time due to non-renewal of contracts.
He demanded that old water pipelines should be replaced with new ones. He also made a case for completion of two water treatment plants at Padocem and Sal.
“Also, posts of water supply engineers in my constituency should be filled,” he added.
Congress MLA from Canacona Isidore Fernandes said that if Gaunem dam water is used for drinking and agriculture purpose then it will cater to the needs of Gaondongrim, Khotigao and Poinguinim areas. Also, there is a need for separate project for water in Agonda, he pointed out.
MLA Prasad Gaonkar pointed out that five panchyats in Sanguem taluka, which lie behind the dam area, are facing problems for water.
Raising the problem of water scarcity during the months of March, April and May in remote areas in Sanguem, he demanded tankers should be made available to this people.
BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral demanded a constituency wise common department related to water works, roads, buildings and JICA projects so that are taken up at a fast pace.
