MARGAO
Around eight years after then Margao Municipal Council councillors were flown to Delhi to take a look at the IL&FS solid treatment plant, now a team of MMC councillors headed by Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai is bracing to fly to Bangalore next week “ this time to see
the operation of the Black Hole solid waste disposal technology.
Managing Director of Goa Sewerage Development Corporation, Sanjit Rodrigues, officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), besides the Municipal team will all fly to Bangalore before taking a final call on the
Black Hole waste treatment technology.
Opening the discussions at Friday’s council meeting, Chairperson Babita invited the councillors to give their names who are willing to go to Bangalore at the cost of the civic body to understand the Black Hole technology and offer their suggestion.
“I have my own reservations to the Black Hole technology. This is the reason why we have to go Bangalore and study the pros and cons. Those willing to join the delegation are free to give their names. We can all fly to
Bangalore by next week,”
she said.
When councillor Rupesh Mahatme pointed out that the Council had at the last meeting resolved to seek reports from the GSPCB, Solid Waste Corporation and Science & Technology, Babita said the councillors too can go to Bangalore and get themselves convinced of the Black Hole technology.
“Let us see for ourselves the technology and whether the company can set up a plant at Sonsodo on experimental basis,” she said.
