MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council has finally called for a meeting on Wednesday with the agitated municipal union employees to discuss and deliberate on the charter of demands submitted by the Goa Municipal Employees Association.
Questions were, however, raised in the corridors of the Civic body whether the meeting called in the district Collectorate will take place as the Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes is believed to have told the Association to depute only 4-5 members for the meeting.
Municipal employees pointed out that since the Association represents a host of sections in the Municipal body, heads of different sections in the past used to attend such important matters, even as they wondered why the Chief Officer has restricted the size of the delegation to just 4-5.
Sources said that Association President Keshav Prabhu is expected to attend the meeting and it could not be ascertained whether the remaining executive committee members will be part of the delegation for the talks.
In the meantime, the Union has taken exception to the sudden transfer of five municipal workers from the New market for garbage work. Union leader Anil Shirodkar pointed out that routine transfers of workers and staff is the right of the Chief Officer, he however, demanded to know why only the five workers from the New Market were transferred for the garbage work. "Our inquiry has revealed that even the market inspectors were not consulted over the decision. This shows something hanky panky in the whole issue", he said.
