MARGAO
As the Margao Civic Alliance (MCA) forged by Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai and Congress leader Digambar Kamat completes one year in office on Friday, Sardesai has said the post of Margao Municipal Chairperson will go to the Kamat group after 15 months unless special circumstances arise and the Model Margao group backed by the Congress MLA goes into another party. The Goa Forward Chief said it is uncalled for to speak on speculation about what would happen in the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) in the event the Congress MLA joins any other party. “We have no right to speak on such speculations. But, if the speculations turn out true, then we can think of that. Right now, speaking on the speculations that the Margao MLA may join another party is uncalled for,” he said.
Saying that the alliance between his Fatorda Forward panel and Kamat’s Model Margao is intact, Sardesai said incumbent Chairperson Lyndon Pereria, aligned to the Fatorda Forward panel, will remain in office for 15 months. “There was an understanding that the MMC Chairperson will remain in office for 15 months. Lyndon is completing one year in office and he will step down from office after three months,” he said.
Ruling out the possibility of Lyndon continuing in office beyond the 15 month period, Sardesai said the post of Chairperson will be occupied by a candidate from Kamat’s Model Margao group. “This was an understanding arrived at between the two panels after the 2021 Municipal polls and we will stick to it. I am a man of word and the agreement will be honoured, unless there are special circumstances and the Model Margao goes into another party,” he added.
MMC chief marks a year in office by commissioning CCTV cameras
MARGAO: Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira will mark one year in office on Friday by commissioning the CCTV cameras in the Municipal building to maintain surveillance over the municipality staff and employees.
The Chairperson will also launch an awareness drive in the SGPDA market against the use of plastic bags.
As the MMC Chairperson completes one year in office and will remain in the saddle for three more months as per an agreement between the Fatorda Forward and Model Margao panels, Lyndon said people should be happy over the functioning of the civic body in the last one year. “We tried to streamline the administration and serve the people. I am happy that we could serve the people. There are many perennial issues plaguing the city and they cannot be resolved overnight,” he said.
