Smiles lit the faces of Margao Municipal officials and employees as the ongoing recovery drive fetched outstanding arrears to the tune of Rs 26.5 lakh on Thursday, the highest in a single day on Thursday.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said his attention is drawn to the fact that many a housing Complexes have defaulted in payment of House taxes.
Similarly, he said Commercial establishments are run without trade licenses., adding that in one complex having 238 premises only 30 are found to be paying license fees. ‘Around 63 Commercial establishments are not even assessed for House tax. It's time to target these big commercial Complexes. Simplification of process is underway”, he said.
The Chief Officer has also requested its Citizens to come forward to pay their house tax which is not paid for several years resulting in huge arrears.
He also cautioned business establishments running without trade licences and said it cannot be tolerated and will be dealt with a strong arm. “Please don't force me to go for harsh action”, he warned.
